1. A simile makes a comparison using like or as while a metaphor makes a comparison not using like or as. A metaphor can also be either direct or indirect.
2. A direct metaphor comes out and says this is what I am comparing while an indirect metaphor doesn't flat out say what is being compared to what.
3. A simple simile/metaphor just states what is being compared while a complex simile/metaphor goes more in depth to the comparison
