character short story

Soft tendrils of morning light drifted in through the crack in the black floor length curtains. The women shifted slightly as the golden yellow light settled on her eyes. She slowly opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling, trying to get her barrings and fully wake up. Blinking, she rolled over and examined the small silver alarm clock next to her bed.
"7:30," she whispered quietly to herself. Sighing heavily, she threw back the thick, black down comforter and slid out from between the silk sheets. As her feet hit the floor the brown lump on her bed started to move. The chocolate lab puppy cocked his head to the side and looked at the women with its golden eyes. Smiling she gave the puppy a reasuring rub on the head and went of in the direction of the kitchen.
