writing sample

During the summer of 2011 I was hired to work with the Fish and Wildlife Service as an intern during their hectic summer months. I then spent the duration of my summer pulling out barbwire fences, uprooting invasive plant species, and learning a whole lot about things I never knew excited. Getting the chance to see first hand how hard it is to maintain native grasses was really eye opening. Learning how to recognize the bad plants from the good plants and how to help keep prairies at equilibrium was really a life changing experience. It showed me an entire new field I could, literally, explore. Not only did I get to know some interesting and exciting new people I got the opportunity to meet new plants, animals, and ways of life. It was really exciting being out in the prairies everyday, no matter how hot it was or how tall the grass was. That summer was one of the most exciting summers of my life. It also, helped me learn a lot about not only prairies, but an ecosystem almost lost at the hands of people.
